El 7 de Junio de 1494 en Tordesillas, Juan II de Portugal y los Reyes Católicos, en base a las bulas Inter caetera y Eximiae devotionis del papa Alejandro VI establecieron una línea de norte a sur a 370 leguas al oeste de las islas de Cabo Verde. Los territorios al oeste de esta línea pertenecía a Castilla y los territorios al este a Portugal.
June 7, 1494 in Tordesillas, John II of Portugal and the Catholic Monarchs, based in the bulls Inter caetera y Eximiae devotionis of the Pope Alexander VI, established a line from north to south, 370 leagues west from the islands of Cape Verde. The territories in the west from this line belonged to Castile and the territories in the east to Portugal.
